Children in Low Income Families across Glasgow Neighbourhoods
For 2022/23, the average proportion of children in low income families in Glasgow was 34.8%, over twelve percentage points higher than the Scottish average of 21.7%. The levels of children in low income families was higher than the Scottish average in the majority of Glasgow's neighbourhoods, although ten of Glasgow's neighbourhoods had levels below the Scottish average.
Levels of low income families within Glasgow neighbourhoods ranged from 5.3% in Carmunock to 74.6% in Govanhill, with most neighbourhoods between 20% and 50%.
Comparing these estimates with previous years, the average proportion of children low income families rose by 3 percentage points in Glasgow and by 0.9 percentage points in Scotland between 2021/22 and 2022/23. The Glasgow figure was 12.1 percentage points higher in 2022/23 than it was in 2014/15. Govanhill has had the highest proportion of low income families in the city through this period. The four neighbourhoods with the lowest levels of low income families in 2022/23 (Carmunock, Hyndland, Dowanhill & Partick East, Cathcart & Simshill, and Kelvindale & Kelvinside) have been mainly consistent throughout this time, although their relative positions have changed each year.

The figures presented here are for children aged 0-15. Although they provide an indication of the approximate propensity for children to be living in low income families, there is a margin of uncertainty associated with the rates, as they are derived from estimates of children populations at mid-year 2022 and counts of children in low income based on age as at 31 March 2023.
