Highest educational qualifications by gender and age in Glasgow
Among adults aged 16 years and over in Glasgow, around a third (35%) have a degree and a fifth (20%) have no qualifications. A slightly larger proportion of women have a degree than men (36% compared with 33%) and a higher proportion have no qualifications (23% compared with 16%).
There is a clear age gradient in the distribution of qualifications. The 16-39 year old group has the highest proportion of graduates with around half (51%), while just 12% of those age 60 or older have a degree or professional qualification. Just under half of those aged 60 or older (45%) have no qualifications compared with 6% of 16-39 year olds.
Percentage of the population with Higher level qualifications and above in neighbourhoods in Glasgow
In 2011 the percentage of the population with a Higher level qualification varied considerably between the neighbourhoods. In Balornock and Barmuloch, approximately a quarter of the population had Higher grade qualifications, while in Hyndland, Dowanhill and Partick East, a neighbourhood with a large proportion of students, more than 80% had a Higher level qualification or above.
