In Glasgow, the percentage of the population who were recorded as never married and never registered in a civil partnership has steadily increased in the last three Census years (41.9% in 2001, 49.2% in 2011 and 53.2% in 2022). In contrast, the percentage of the population who were married or in a registered civil partnership has decreased in the same time period from 35.2% in 2001 to 31.0% in 2011 and 2022.
Notes
Civil partnerships have been recognised for same-sex couples in Scotland since 2005 following the enactment of the Civil Partnership Act 2004. Please note, the 2001 Census therefore does not include civil partnerships.
