Net migration in Glasgow City Region, 2003/04 - 2021/22
From 2006/07 onwards, the number of migrants entering Glasgow has exceeded the number leaving, except in 2012/13. This has contributed significantly to the growth of Glasgow's population in this period. West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde have been losing population to net out-migration over most of the last 15 years. Net migration into Glasgow decreased to just 100 in 2020/21 and steeply rose to 11,840 in 2021/22.

Notes

Net migration is measured as the number of people moving into an area minus the number of people leaving an area.

The National Records of Scotland (NRS), formerly the General Register Office for Scotland (GROS), estimates of total migration are mainly based on the International Passenger Survey (IPS) and GP registration information.

For further more detailed statistics on migration go to the NRS site.
