What would the population of Glasgow look like as 100 people?

On this page we present data about Glasgow’s population, by imagining the city as a village of 100 people. This concept was used previously in Miniature Glasgow, a film based on data from a range of sources held within the UK Government, the Scottish Government and Glasgow City Council.

Here we present updated population information in the form of infographics illustrating the composition of Glasgow’s population in different age groups, as well as the variation in population characteristics across the city.

Sources for the update include the National Records of Scotland, Census, Glasgow City Council Education Services and the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (Scottish Government). Data on ethnicity, religion, disability and deprivation are all from the 2011 Census, data relating to child poverty is from 2013, and the population figures are from 2014. 

There are almost 600,000 people living in Glasgow. This infographic represents the population of the city in 100 people.

There are 74,193 children aged 5-17 living in Glasgow. This infographic represents them as a population of 100 people.

There are 344,040 adults aged 18-54 living in Glasgow. This infographic represents them as a population of 100 people.

There are 106,667 adults aged 55-74 living in Glasgow. This infographic represents them as a population of 100 people.

There are 39,697 adults aged over 75 living in Glasgow. This infographic represents them as a population of 100 people.
