Overall SDQ score - Scottish Cities

SDQ SALSUS total SCOT 2020

When comparing Glasgow City Region to other Scottish cities, Glasgow City Region has a slightly smaller proportion of boys with a normal total score, but has a slightly higher proportion of girls with a normal score when compared to Aberdeen and Dundee.

The SDQ results can be broken into five elements: emotional symptoms, conduct problems, hyperactivity and inattention, peer relationship problems and pro-social behaviours. In Glasgow, girls had fewer difficulties with peer relationships and with conduct problems, but more difficulties with emotional symptoms, compared to boys. Girls also reported better prosocial behaviour than boys. Girls and boys had similar results for hyperactivity and inattention.

These patterns were similar to those from other Scottish cities and from the local authorities that make up Glasgow City Region.

Notes

1. Graphs show the percentage of respondents with a 'normal' score, which indicate fewer problems than those who scored abnormal/borderline.
2. As the Glasgow City area had relatively few respondents compared to other areas in 2018, it is shown combined with its neighbouring local authorities for comparisons to other Scottish cities.
