Employment by industrial group in Scotland 1841-2001Scotland’s economy and labour market have undergone major changes in recent decades, one of the most notable being the rise of the service sector economy to 79% in 2001, comprising retail, hospitality, finance, business and the public sector. The growth in this sector is in contrast to the decline of the manufacturing industry.
