In this graph the pay of the the lowest paid 20% of residents in full-time employment in a local authority is compared to that of the highest paid 20% of residents in full-time employment. The pay for the highest paid 20% of residents in Edinburgh is notably higher than in other local authorities, whilst Dundee residents have the lowest pay levels among both the lowest paid and highest paid groups comparing across authorities.

Edinburgh residents have the highest average pay while residents of Dundee have the lowest. Gross annual pay for Glasgow residents in full-time employment increased by 41% in the period 2008-2022 and is close to, but below, the Scottish average.

These pay estimates come from the ONS' Annual survey of hours and earnings and are based on gross annual pay for full-time employees before income tax and national insurance.

The figures shown are for residents of a local authority, who may or may not work in the same local authority they live in. The figures do not reflect the levels of pay paid by workplaces within that authority.
