Alcohol-related deaths across the Glasgow City Region
Glasgow has had the highest number of alcohol-specific deaths throughout the last two decades. The number of deaths peaked in 2002-2006, before declining in recent years. North Lanarkshire has consistently had the second highest number of alcohol deaths in the region, while alcohol deaths are lowest in East Dunbartonshire and East Renfrewshire.

In the early 2000s, rates of alcohol-specific deaths peaked in Glasgow and then declined, which is a pattern seen across the region. In more recent periods, that decline slowed and alcohol-specific death rates have increased in some local authroities. In 2017-2021, Inverclyde had the highest rate of alcohol deaths in the City Region.
