Percentage of the population by trans status in selected UK cities
Edinburgh and Glasgow, of all the selected UK cities, has a considerately higher percentage of the population with a non-binary trans status (0.42% and 0.39% respectively).
There is less variation between selected UK cities in the trans man and trans woman categories, with Manchester and Birmingham having amongst the highest proportion of the population in both categories (around 0.16%).
The percentage of the population identifying as of other or unspecified trans history or gender identity is greatest in Manchester (0.53%), and considerably lower in Glasgow (0.16%) and Edinburgh (0.14%).
Around 92% of people aged 16 and over in the selected cities identify as either ‘Not trans and does not have a trans history’ in Scotland or ‘Gender identity the same as sex registered at birth’ in England (excluded from the above chart).
As the trans status question was voluntary in both the England and Wales and Scottish Censuses, around 7% of people aged 16 and over in each of the cities chose not to answer.
