Low-income households in Glasgow City Region 2021
An estimated 30% of households in Glasgow reported having a household income of less than £20,000 in 2021. Across Glasgow City Region, the highest rate was in Renfrewshire, where 39% of households had less than £20,000 in income in 2021. The lowest rate was in East Dunbartonshire, where 17% of households had an income of less than £20,000 in 2021.
Looking at those on the lowest measured incomes, 1% of households in Glasgow reported an income of less than £6,000 in 2021. In Inverclyde, 4% of households had an income below £6,000.

The dates shown here mainly predate the cost-of-living crisis, and so it is not yet known what impact that will have had on people's responses to this survey question.
SHS income figures are based on the income of the highest income householder and their spouse or partner only. In other words, they do not count other adults that may reside in the household.
These data come from the Scottish Household Survey. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic meant a change in methods for the survey, and the results for 2021 are therefore not comparable with previous years. More details on these changes can be found on the SHS site.
