Volunteering in selected Scottish cities
The Scottish Household Survey asks adults whether they have undertaken any formal volunteering in the 12 months leading up to the survey.
In Glasgow, in 2023, 16% of adults had volunteered in the last 12 months, which is lower than the figure for Scotland as a whole (18%), or than the figure for Edinburgh (21%), but slightly higher than those of Dundee or Aberdeen (both 15%).
Rates in all of the Scottish cities, and in Scotland overall, had been dropping between 2017 and 2023, though not consistenly. However, even the highest rate shown here for 2023 (21%, in Edinburgh) was below the lowest rate shown in 2012 (22%, for Dundee).
